As I prep for the fifth session of the Green Spring Gardens master gardener program, I realize I am totally in over my head.

In the photo above, I’m the bee impaled by nature.

Only vanity – most of my classmates are women – keeps me plugging.

And, yes, I know that’s sexist.

I do what I can with what I’ve got.

Thank God, I didn’t sign up for the master naturalist program. It covers animals and bugs as well as plants.

I keep forgetting: I’m a humanities guy!
