Chicory.

You see this scraggly, weedy plant alongside parkways, roads with vacant lots or the less traveled byways of Fairfax County.

The pretty blue flowers attract the eye. I like the serrated edges of the petals.

Some people (not me) use the leaves in salads, and I recall reading Civil War memoirs that mentioned soldiers and others using it as a substitute for coffee.

Looks wild.
